Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” -John 7:38 Given my experiences, I know that a huge change took place when I got Saved in my 2nd year at university. Life didn't magically become perfect, but it wasn't the same. I knew that something had happened. I also realized that people started noticing me differently too. It was a bit awkward and didn't realize it at first (obviously due to the darkness that was still clogging within me) but those people were attracted to Christ who was within me. Given my experiences, I realize that just like the way the Bible describes how Christ had no physical beauty to appeal us to Him, I too had no physical beauty, AND then no characteristic beauty to attract others. You see, at SOME point, no matter how I look, no matter how I dress, no matter what talent I have, or how successful I become, the real me is going to come out. The real me is going to desire to jump out of the disguise, and the physical me, the "successful" me is going to fade away like a vapor. So I realized that it wasn't worth it to desire the things of this world or to be of this world... When I started noticing that people were "attracted"/"drawn" to me at first I was happy and having fun with a lot of these new friends. Given my past experiences of knowing that some people come with an agenda, it faded away for me and became old really fast. I knew that people were people. Just like Jesus says: "he knew what was in them" (John 2:25). I too, from experience, learned that some people just want something from you or think that they are drawn to you because of your (insert word here) or I simply learned that people are not perfect.
The deeper I got into the Word, the deeper I began to understand that the Word of God is truly truly alive and living. People were drawn to me because of the Light of Christ, and at times they too didn't understand it. In no way shape or form am I saying this to be arrogant or conceited, not at all. I'm saying this because we are SUPPOSED to have others drawn to us because we are now different. One of the past Sundays, we had Benny Paras as our guest speaker. He had asked the Lord to help him create a unique instrument and the Lord gave him favor. He is the first man to create a guitar with drums in it. Since then, he has broken world records and has travelled to every single country in the world to play music to people of all status'. Benny also knew that there was nothing about him that attracted him to others. In fact, he told of his story of being an outcast and how he got ridiculed all his life. Christ in him attracted others to him as he played this unique instrument. He knew that he could use this as a positive thing rather than to his own advantage. He used and still uses this instrumental as an introduction in order to tell people about Christ. Benny isn't fooled however, he knows that people want to be his friend because of the newfound "fame", but he understands that it's not about that. It reminded me of how even Jesus didn't bring everyone to walk closely with him and told them to go out and tell the gospel, and instead kept the 12 disciples with him. At times some people who truly like us won't be the ones we have to walk with, we have to realize the difference between a true friendship, and an assignment given by God for them or for us to experience. This calls for true discernment. My point is this: God is going to be attractive regardless of who we are, what we look like, or what talent we have. Some use their looks, talent, position, in order to take advantage of others and all that is going to eventually fade. There will be a point when you can't lead your conversations with "ya soo uhh, my Bentley..I mean, my Bentleys, I forgot to put the plural! Well, anyway, all of them are great. I got them in every color because my boss just think's I'm just a darling! And...guess what!! I'm going to be a model and I'm going to play at the world famous arena!" <-----That, will fade. As for Christ? He'll never fade. "Heaven and earth will pass away, by my Words will never pass away" Matthew 24:35 We have a choice. We can either take advantage of this river of LIVING water to bring glory to ourselves and pretend that people are attracted to us, (but always remember that when we became born again we became a new creation and it is the Holy Spirit living in us. There is absolutely nothing good in us. Anything good in us let us praise God because we know that it can only be Him and His characteristics) and say that it's all our doing, OR we can take advantage of the river of living water that flows inside of us and let it flow in the form that it desires, (whether it's through how unique you look, how you dress, how you speak, how you do anything), in order to glorify God and to let His Word be heard. Amen! Glory hallelujah! Glory be to God for this post, He is worth of praise! Amen! Once again, keep the faith, and love like you've never loved before. With love always, FAITH by Promises
