God is SO good! I've been doing this online 365-day devotional by Joyce Meyer, and it has really been speaking to me (hence the many references to her as of late!! haha!). She said: "I know God loves me, so I can love what God chooses to love. I don't love everything I do, but I accept myself because God accepts me." How true. If a PERFECT God, who has NO blemish CHOOSES to love us, why can't we start to see ourselves in the same light He does? I believe that we are meant to love ourselves (obviously not in a conceited way)... One thing I love about the beginning, before the Fall, was how God was walking in the "cool of the day" (Genesis 3:8), meaning it was purely normal for Him to be there. I mean, He was WALKING in the COOL of the DAY! This shows us something SO significant!
Before the Fall, Adam and God had a great & open relationship, and Adam was able to be naked in front of God (physically and spiritually). Now, I'm not saying to walk around physically naked, but what I am saying is how in this age, we don't even "notice" or "recognize" God "walking in the cool of the day," so we fail to have that constant communication and vulnerability with Him. So how can we choose to love what He loves if we don't communicate with Him? We don't talk to Him or give Him "credit" when some kind of "coincidence" (as we like to call it) occurs, and we continue on in our own thoughts as the day goes by. My point is this: Be open with God, and walk with Him in the cool of the day. When that door of communication opens, He starts showing you so many things that you never realized, including revelations about what you have chosen to view as a "flaw," and where your insecurities stem from. His Word will also start becoming alive rather than "a bunch of words you memorize." You see, God is already speaking to us. At times He'll say, "hey that event occurred because I wanted to show you why I gave you xyz, and I wanted to show you just how blessed you are.." or He could even say: "I know xyz happened, but now you are able to do xyz because of it". Sometimes we also just have to choose to accept certain things even if we'll never know why they were put there. We just have to trust God and know that there IS a reason known to Him & He knows what He is doing. I remember a period when I said, "you know what, my "flaws" actually keep me humble. :) Just like Paul says in 2 Corinthians 12:7, I have my own "thorns" which enable me to see that God's Grace truly IS sufficient enough for me, and I don't need to rely on all these superficial things. So next time you grumble or groan about something, that might be one of the reasons ;-) So we see that at times we have a "thorn"/flaw to keep us reliant on Him. At other times it's so God can use us to reach others (remember even Moses had a speech deficiency and needed help! There are so many people in the Bible who thought that they weren't "good enough" but God chose to use them) and there are other reasons as well. God loves you, so you can love and accept yourself because HE chooses to love & accept you. Amen! Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for accepting me. Thank you for loving me and not rejecting me. Please help me to love and accept myself in a healthy way. I pray for open communication with you so I won't dwell on my flaws, or miss out of what you are saying to me about the way you made me and what you want to do through me for your glory. Lord, I pray for grace, for peace, for love, and most of all, to choose to love what you love! In Jesus Name I pray, Amen!
