Not too long ago, Pastor David Mc Chesney was a guest pastor at my church. I remember he said: "learn to receive manna for TODAY." Although the context was totally different from what I'm going to talk about, this sentence came back to me in various situations thereafter. Recently, it got me thinking...how much do we worry about what's going to happen tomorrow, when really today hasn't even been lived? We go on and on about what will be, and yet the Lord says: "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?" (Matthew 6:26-27) Today is the day we are in, it is the present, and as cliché as this is, it really is the gift we have been given. "This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." -Psalm 118:24
It is the day the LORD has made, not us. How come we never realize what a blessing it is to have been given a day, a moment, a time such as this to be alive, to be breathing, to be healthy, to have what we have, and to be who we are? Even if things are not so great right now, how amazing it is that the LORD is the One who has made this very day? We all know who the Lord is. He is The Creator, The Awesome One, The One who has no fault nor blemish, so we know that if He is the One who made this day, who carved it, formed it, and created it, it surely has a ton of worth. "This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it" -Psalm 118:24 In this very day, rejoice. To rejoice is to feel or show great joy. It is to cause joy to. How many times do we get out of bed, not even thanking God for waking us up, or just simply thanking Him for being who He is? How many times do we get out of bed, already worrying about what the day might bring? It says: "be still, and know that He is God." (Psalm 46:10) It tells us to 'know that'. Knowing something dramatically changes things for us. When we truly know something, we are conscious of it. We start to act on it because this new awareness has truly shifted our thinking, our ways, our processing, and our movements. I can hear some people saying, "But! You don't even understand my life! My life is hard and miserable, I have struggles!" I know. I won't even claim to understand the depth of your struggles, how you're not doing so well right now, or how life has gotten the best of you in this moment. I won't because I don't want to undermine your experiences, and I know full well that I'm not you & I can't feel what you're feeling. I won't judge you or what you're going through. But one thing I can say I do know, is that God knows the depth of your struggles. He knows you're not doing so well right now. He also knows that He can supply for you and sustain you...but wants you to ask, rely, stay, trust, look up, look to Him, and be glad in that day. He's also given you the power (inside you) to have peace and control in the midst of your circumstances ("now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than we could ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us." Ephesians 3:20). "This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it" -Psalm 118:24 To be glad is to delight; to be pleased; to be willing, and eager to do something. This won't necessarily be a feel-good ooooh-la-la-moment. It's a moment of realization. It's when we realize that despite our circumstances, despite the happenings, we have been blessed with a brand new day that was created just for us to take pleasure & part in. There was something divinely created for you to hear, for you to see, for you to witness, for you to be inspired by, for you to taste, for you to create, and for you to achieve. There was a divine appointment specially created for you so you could "bump" into someone who would forever alter your life for the better, and for you to "bump" into someone and change their life for the better. This day was created with you in mind. I know you're hurt, and confused, but if the Lord could sustain the Israelites (who were extremely stubborn) in the wilderness for 40 years (who, I might add, didn't have the Holy Spirit to guide them like we have today) and dropped manna enough for EACH and EVERY day, and their clothes & shoes never wore out after walking for that long, then SURELY, certainly, unquestionably, without a doubt my dear friend, each and everyday He will provide enough "manna" for you as well. He will supply for you. "Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." -Isaiah 40:30-31 "Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning." -Psalm 30:5 The Lord God handcrafted this day, and before we try to seize another moment, or another day that comes after this very day, let's remember that we have divinely handcrafted moments specially made for us. Today is the day that will help us face all of our tomorrows. Be glad, and rejoice dear child of God, He is with you. Once again, keep the faith, and love like you've never loved before. With love always, FAITH by Promises
